The frequent ideas are often easy – It’s bringing them to life that isn’t.

The palette is smooth - all dry crusty paint has been scraped off.

The favourite brushes lie ready – flat, round, bristly, soft, splayed, fat, thin. Which ones will make that definitive mark, that confident clear stroke?

The soft supple oil paint oozes from the tube after colour choices have been made – zinc or titanium white, naples yellow or Italian pink, Prussian or indigo blue, raw or burnt umber, or sienna, Australian leaf green or green chrome oxide?

Choices seem endless and daunting, and the prepared base ground on the canvas is still waiting to interact with the oil colours.
